Video Conferencing and it's future trends

January 28, 2018

Until a few years back, Multi user video conferencing system was deemed as a costly and a high end installation system for most businesses. But that is not the case anymore. Advancement in the field of both hardware and software systems and increased demand among the millennial for an improved visual communication has changed this scenario altogether. Due to a reduction in bandwidth cost, video quality is enhanced. All this has resulted in a reduction in the cost of group video conference service as well as devices. As a result, more and more companies are going in for group video conference.

In today's world, most companies have virtual meeting rooms dedicated to multi user as well as 3-way video conference with team members plugging in from mobile devices as well as with our super easy and user friendly plug and play USB HD PTZ cameras!

As technology is improving at a rapid pace, we can expect many changes in the video conferencing world. Here are three trends to watch out for in video conferencing:

1) High-quality video conferencing service with better audio and video quality.

Of late, a growing trend in multi user video conferencing has been reported by Cisco. According to Cisco, there is likely to be a stark difference between the present leaders and leaders of the future. While the present leaders are technology oriented and want to use it wherever possible, the future leaders are completely dependent on technology and with plans to utilise it on a day to day basis.

A survey conducted by Redshift Research and sponsored by Cisco showed that 87% of youngsters prefer to work for a company that is “video enabled” rather than one that goes without. Moreover, 84% of those who took part in the survey would rely on meetings with videos for at least one out of every four interactions.

Along with using video as a collaboration tool, majority of the young respondents also called for very high quality of the tools used. This could be because they are so accustomed to using technology even from early days that they are not ready to compromise on the speed and quality.

2) Use of Video conferencing outside the traditional virtual meeting room

Ever since Microsoft acquired Skype in 2011, the average social video calls each year from Skype has reached 8 million hours according to Lovina McMurchy - General Manager of Skype Advertising. This trend in video call will change the attitude of people and takes away the stigma associated with choosing multi user video conferencing over face to face meetings.

In addition to using multi user video conference for social interaction, it is widely used for interviews as well.  Multinational companies always seek global talent. But travelling out of the country just for an interview may not be feasible for all. Studies have shown that the majority of candidates prefer group video conference over travelling to potential employer’s destination for an interview.

3) Video conferencing will be taken to the next level by virtual reality

Video conferencing has the advantage that it let the participants communicate at different levels, unlike traditional conference calls. By viewing the body language and facial expression of others, the participants are able to experience various non-verbal cues. This adds to the effectiveness of the meeting. By using our very own Angekis camera, participants across the world are able to feel that they are sitting in the same room irrespective of their physical location. This is achieved through the high level censors that ensure crisp image quality.
